John is becoming quite the woodworker and he decided to put his skills to the test. This project consisted of an old chair with a broken back and seat left in the woodshop from the previous owners, a rake found in a neighbors' garbage can, and scrap wood found lying around. We call it, "The Chair," and its' purpose is to allow John to manipulate the control stick and check the T-34 instrument panel as he "chair-flies" at home. As you can see in the picture below, this is the finished chair, along with the instrument panel that can be found on a T-34. Today there were a couple people who were wanting to come over and "fly" John's chair to prepare for upcoming flights so I think this will probably be a very helpful thing for training.
And here is John flying his chair. He can look at the instrument panel and at the map above to determine how he needs to get from Point A to Point B, as well as run through emergency procedures for the airplane. Does anyone else get a Star Wars flashback looking at this picture? Oxygen mask, helmet, I don't know, the theme song just started going through my head a little.
Just as a little update, we had a GREAT Christmas with our families back in Oregon; and we are thoroughly enjoying being back in Florida. John is continuing to do very well in his flight training and we are down to the wire as far as welcoming our little baby into our lives. When you think of us, please continue to pray for safety for John when he is in the T-34 (training airplane) as well as the ability to retain the insane amount of information he is required to know. And, we always appreciate prayers regarding the health and safety of our baby, pre and post-arrival. :)
