Emmett has an allergy to grass. Do you know how hard it is to keep a 2 year old from running around in the grass outside on a sunny day with clothes on? His excema flared up terribly and he and I spent about 2 weeks in utter misery while he stayed up all night long itching and scratching. One morning he fell asleep at 5:30am and Stuart, the faithful waker upper that he is, got up promptly at 6:00. I didn't hear him. At about 8:30am I came out to this:
She had fixed pancakes with fried eggs and had all three of her brothers seated at the table while she served them. I did not train her to do this. She just does it.
My mom treated me to new dining chairs and they make me smile every time I look at them.
We lost our first chicken...Busy Bonnie had sour crop and I didn't catch it in time. There were plenty of tears shed. She was the sweetest chick.
We are slowly working on getting a little farm up and running. I made my own laundry soap for the first time and I am super happy with it.
We have a mole problem here. The kids drowned one out of its hole and the next day Aubs was the brave one and carried it via shovel to its resting place. The second picture is her cheering and then she swiftly went into the house to scream into her pillow. Ha. :)
John asked what I wanted for our 10 year anniversary and I said chickens. Being the thorough gift giver he is he built me a coop to go with the chickens. This has been a community project in some respects as John is gone Sunday night until Friday night. I'm amazed at what he has accomplished in the limited amount of time he has been home.
Grandpa and Uncle Geoff helped build the frame for the coop and Papa came over to get it up.
Papa and Nana came over and put the siding up with me.
I am missing important pictures of priming day. Annie and Noah and Levi came and helped with the priming. On the hottest day.
Nana came over to help paint the coop a very cheerful red.
I will take the finished photo when it's all completely finished but now it has a re-purposed tin roof and a really great Dutch door.
And between the building of the coop there has been lots of time for play.
And I've squeezed in some jam-making.
This is John's office. It's pretty rough.
So we are plugging away and really really enjoying our simple life.
