A friend of mine posted a link to this wonderful blog post by someone I do not know personally, but I felt it worth sharing because my heart has been here for quite a while. I want to preface this by saying that I really enjoy pinterest and getting ideas for life, projects, crafts, etc. there. And some complaints I read about this particular article were people feeling she was bashing "artsy" people. As one who likes pretty things, I am not advocating throwing out all creativity. But I do think there is great value in evaluating what ultimately matters in life...and what really makes love. http://www.rachelheldevans.com/pre-pinterest-wedding 7 years ago I married the man I chose to spend the rest of my days with. We were engaged and six months later, squeezing in a date between patrols at sea, we were married. Five of my very dearest friends stood beside me, our pastor of 23 years led us in vowing our lives to one another, and we ate a bite of cake and some food while we mingled with the friends and family who came to support and celebrate with us. And then we left. 7 years have passed. Not exactly a lifetime, is it? But it seems there has been a sort of lifetime crammed into those 7 years. We've moved, said goodbye to friends and family, loved ones have passed away, babies have been born, the number of family members has expanded. Life has happened. Joyfully, Johnny says to me quite often, "Man, I had no idea how much I could actually love you when we first were married." Our care for each other is so much deeper than it was those 7 years ago. And, if I'm going to be honest, our wedding has almost nothing to do with that. It's the life that has been happening since that day. Sometimes I fear that our desire for those picture-perfect moments prevents us from actually experiencing the picture-perfect moments. I want to guard my heart, in all areas of my life, from wanting things to be so pretty for the picture that I forget about capturing the beauty in reality.

The Latest Adventures...
...in our typically average life.
The Petersen cousins got to go on an Easter egg hunt at Papa & Nana's house.
John & I got to go see the play, "Wicked," with some of our favorite people. Mom & Dad Petersen were there, too, we just didn't get a picture of everyone.
Easter Sunday, to which my kids said, "Good luck, Mom, trying to get a decent shot."
Clam digging! And playing in the sand at the beach!
We're looking forward to a fun summer. We just found out that instead of moving to Kodiak this summer we will be staying around for another year which means:
1. We get to be around when Blake & Stephanie move to Gresham!
2. We get to be around and close for a good friend's wedding!
3. We get to enjoy living close to our families a bit longer!
4. We get to go to a family camp in Pennsylvania (we went last year) and see dear friends we haven't seen in YEARS!
There are lots of reasons to be thankful. And for any who are curious, here are some answers to the Frequently Asked Questions as of late:
1. Are you disappointed? Well, we would love to get to adventure in Kodiak next year. We are not disappointed that we are staying. And we are not disappointed in God's purposes and plans. :)
2. Will you go to Alaska next year? We hope so! Again, God's plan, His timing.
3. Why are you not going? The easiest answer is, "that's the military." While we cannot read the Coast Guard's mind, we can rest assured that God is not surprised and we can just sit back and enjoy another sweet summer here in our home-state!
For any of you friends who will be going to White Sulphur Springs, we can't wait to see you!!

"Now What?!"
The other day I was working on laundry out in the garage. Bryant grabbed a rolled up poster of John's, pointed it at Aubrey's ear:
"RIBBIT! RIBBIT! RIBBIT!"
Aubrey: "Please stop, please stop. PLEASE stop. PLEASE STOP!!!!!"
Me: "Aubs, just ignore him."
Silence. "RIBBIT! RIBBIT! RIBBIT!" Silence. "RIBBIT! RIBBIT! RIBBIT!"
"NOW WHAT, MOM?!?!"
Has there ever been a moment (or season) in your life when you're checking all the right boxes but the "RIBBIT," keeps sounding off in your ear? Okay, it might just be me. But instead of the panicked, "NOW WHAT, LORD?!?!" I'm trying to say with quiet hope, "Okay, Lord, I'm anticipating Your hand coming in to save the day."
And some pictures of the crew.
Our big littlest boy. Loves to be a part of what Sissy and Bubs are doing. Even if it means literally sitting on their laps to be included.
Our sweet girl who tries so hard to do the right thing.
Our passionate big boy, full of laughs, full of fire, full of LIFE.
Decorating Easter Eggs!
A close-up of the "Tewey Bear." He is just so darn cute.
